A review of our “must-haves” for baby’s first year!

A few weeks ago I did a review of the most popular items in my house right now for Ava. This week I am pressing REWIND and listing all of the items we loved and used often when Ava was an infant. I have tons of friends and family having babies – (one just last week!) so I thought it could be useful to take a look at my top 10 items.

This post is simply what worked for us, there are tons of products and variations of products but I did review most of these items with my friends who loved them as well! After looking at my list, a lot has to do with SLEEP! It’s no secret a baby needs a lot of sleep and I wanted to try everything I could to get Ava some good, quality sleep – so I could sleep too! Ha!

Zip-up PJ’s – I am still a firm believer that all items should be zipper or even cooler, magnets! The button or snap items just simply were not an option for us. Ava is a squirmy baby when she is getting changed so the added pressure of lining up the buttons and getting all of the snaps was too stressful for me!!! If you want to splurge, I LOVE this brand, absolutely the softest fabric! I have a mix of both – both do the trick!

Dohm noise machine This noise machine is a fan-based natural white noise, with two speed options for adjustable tone and volume.  I can say we had a Memorial Day party here and the noise machine cancelled out all the loudness going on in our backyard! It may be a little pricey but it is totally worth it.

Halo Sleep Sack/Swaddle – Another item with zippers! This sleep sack/swaddle was a game changer for us – a swaddled baby sleeps well! We used it until Ava was about 6 months old and used it in all the ways shown in the link, arms in, one arm in, both arms out!

Rock n Play – As we all know, the first few months – babies sleep A LOT! This Rock n Play stayed in our living room so Ava could snooze close to me when I was doing chores around the house. The motion of the rocking really knocked her out!

Bouncer/Jumper – Ava absolutely loved her bouncer. It was great for me too because I knew Ava was safe in one spot and could be entertained! It also wore her out so she slept really well after a good bounce sesh.

Halo Bassinet  – OK this is a complete splurge but a friend of mine kindly let me borrow hers and it really was worth it. I added the newborn insert as it says it provides a narrower sleeping surface, to help your baby feel more secure. It worked!

Dock a Tot – Another splurge but this was a great item for traveling! We took this everywhere when Ava was tiny and she could catch a quick nap on the go. I also would take it into the bathroom to get ready, put it in the kitchen while I cooked, anywhere really!

Piano Playmat – Ava loved kicking this little play mat and staring up at all the fun toys above her head! The bright colors and shapes are great for their development and now my mom keeps it at her house and when Ava goes over to play at her house she looks like a giant playing with it – but she still loves the piano! Score for a toy being able to entertain a kid for over a year, almost unheard of!!! 🙂

Nose Frida – So… this one isn’t the most glamorous item to review, but if your kid has ever been stuffed up – you will understand how valuable this thing is! It really helps to clear a stuffy nose. Trust me!

Baby Bjorn – I loved carrying Ava in this for the first few months! It gave me so much freedom to be able to hold her and also stay active. I remember the first time I used it I walked to the post office and almost wanted to announce the entire post office how happy I was to be there! (maybe I had been in the house too long…)

Check out some early pics of Ava – she was/is just the sweetest thing!

What were items that worked for you? What do you think I missed? I’d love to hear from you!
