WOW! That’s how I have to begin this review…seriously, WOW!
Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Just Bare Skin in Bryn Mawr, PA and had a HydraFacial. Do you ever see the women that work in a spa or salon and their skin is literally glowing? I sure have! I’ve always wondered how they achieved that glow – I am diligent about washing my face, exfoliating, and moisturizing but somehow I could never get that effortlessly, glow-y skin… UNTIL I got the HydraFacial!
OK, so let’s back up for a second – maybe you’re wondering what a HydraFacial is? In its most basic sense, it’s a facial. But it isn’t the type of facial that warm scrubs are rubbed into your face. This is a highly technical treatment developed and customized for your skin. It is a 3 part treatment that cleanses, extracts/exfoliates, and protects your skin.
I’ll quickly go over the steps – on clean skin, a glycolic/salicylic peel will be applied. The lowest grade peel is 7.5% – the highest being 30%. Just Bare Skin has a Medical Director on their staff so they are able to go up to 30%, which is limited to offices with a physician on staff. The higher the grade peel will be based on your skin type and need, usually for mature skin or skin with acne. I found this step to tingle and itch a bit, a sign that the dead skin was shedding and exposing a new layer of skin ready to accept the serums to make you glow! Secondly, (the most fascinating part to me) the handheld wand is rubbed over your face acting like a vacuum unclogging clogged pores, extracting blackheads and sucking off the dead skin! (GROSS, but totally amazing at the same time)! Finally, a cocktail of antioxidants and peptides are dispensed on your face – and the key step here, this “serum” is not rubbed into your face. It is run over your face until your face stops accepting the hydration – your skin can either need just a bit of hydration, or a lot, there is not set amount so each person will vary, and each time you go can vary!
OK – so that’s the gist of the HydraFacial – now let’s get to the expert, Cynthia, who performed the HydraFacial!
Cynthia warmly greeted me in the clean spa room and asked me about my skin – we talked about which products I’m using, what my routine looks like and if I am having any problems with my skin. I really appreciated that Cynthia said they do not carry any products to sell at Just Bare Skin because she didn’t believe one line of products works for every skin type. She said the best thing she can advise is to go into Sephora or Blue Mercury and try products…each person’s skin has such different needs! I really want to emphasize how much I appreciated this part because many times you will get a facial and they will push products on you…not this case here!
As I mentioned before, the HydraFacial is extremely tailored to each person’s needs and can change from time to time, depending on the season or if your skin is having any particular issues. In addition to the cleanse/exfoliate/replenish multistep treatment, there are add-on’s that Cynthia can suggest to brighten, tighten or diminish fine lines or sunspots. These are add-on’s to the initial treatment, but what is incredible is that Cynthia does not accept tips. She would rather you be able to get the treatment you need and spend money on the additions you need than worry about tipping her. I think that is such a testament to her professionalism. You can tell she really cares about doing what’s best for her clients to ensure they are satisfied!
If you are local to the Philadelphia Main Line – treat yourself to this amazing facial. After these harsh, FREEZING few weeks we’ve had, I have found my skin feels so much softer and brighter – an instant pick-me-up in these cold, dark months!
5 days post HyrdaFacial, I can say my skin is baby soft! My make-up seems to go on so much smoother and I can see fine lines around my eyes are much less noticeable. I really can’t say enough about Just Bare Skin – they have a wide array of services and it feels great knowing you will never be sold something you don’t need.
Mention seeing this blog and Cynthia will give you the GOLD STAR treatment – as if she wouldn’t do that already!
